Thoughts While Making the Bed by Ryn Holmes

I should have known
you were on the way,
started earlier,
taken more care,
been prepared to follow
your angles and curves,
learned the shapes and shifts
of that and all this,
deciphered the few clues left behind.
You always knew how well we fit,
how foolish,
how possibly wise we were
when we did or did not agree.
That was so perfectly you.
This is now me,
opening your gifts.
