It Seems Like There Were Days by James Babbs

it seems like there were days without madness
when the sun felt warm upon my face
before the light collapsed into darkness
the night swallowing the sky
leaving me feeling breathless
and when I grew restless
and couldn’t get to sleep
I took the car out
and drove through the night
driving around
among all of those
tiny islands of light
where I had heard
some people went to get lost
and I knew
one of them held you
my arms were empty
and love was still something
I didn’t understand
my hands kept gripping the wheel
