Whatever Happened To That House By The Sea by Suvojit Banerjee

The ocean transforms pebbles
into pearls, and sends away
carcasses unto the shores;

A poet is bemused. A fisherman
hangs his lantern atop the
sludgy dinghy. That is his
poetry.

Centuries of death become
forests, the briny sea a fjord.
The holes of bullets on faces
become braille
for the
wicked.

Lured by promises of fireflies
children once left their home.
Now they are as lost as the gray sea.
Civilization looks like
St. Elmo’s fire.

Whatever happened to that house
by the sea, nobody knows.
Some say it wandered off
like the Flying Dutchman; some

don’t believe in magic anymore.

Suvojit Banerjee is from India and the United States. He started writing early, but found his niche in his early twenties. His works have been published in many Indian and International journals and magazines and featured in several anthologies. He currently works in a software company, and has worked as a lead writer/reviewer for a technology website.
