Love Story I by Neil Ellman

I can read the future
in Tarot Cards
the tick tock
of a death clock
and the entrails
of a slaughtered sheep.

In palmistry
and coffee grounds
I can even know
the words you’ll speak
before you’ll form them
in your mind.

By the stars
and murmuration
of the birds
I can see
Into the fire and crystal
of your eyes
and know your soul
as well as I know mine.

I, like a chicken
pecking at a grain
of corn,
know what will
become of us.
