To Write A Brick by Christine Jackson

be a brick
that particular brick
around the corner
from Wong’s take out
under the unlit butcher shop sign
before dawn
at three fifty four a em
scrawled on
pissed on
broken
wounded
listen for the crack of gunfire
feel the words
don’t be a liar.

Christine Jackson teaches literature and creative writing at a South Florida university. Her poetry has been published in several online publications, including Autumn Sky Poetry Daily, Scarlet Leaf Review, Poetry Breakfast, A Quiet Courage,Verse-Virtual, and The Ekphrastic Review.
