Picture Day by Mike Zone

we got us a professional photographer
at the beer warehouse
sweat dripping off your balls?
hernia protruding?
groom that beard!
cut that hair!
10-13 hour days loading trucks
stacking cases ceiling high
work 52 weeks without time off
well, 3 days after the first…
but not all at once
“…hand in pocket”
“cock your head to the right”
rubber finger chemically coded gloves
eat your fingertips
“it’s a fun place to work”
“tell us your experience”
woke up with ankles about to snap
broken sleep-cycle insomnia
cracked skin
and bulges that  have no reason for being
“go over there by those kegs”
“tip your company approved hat”
for fear of company approved bathrooms
and right-wing football loving
homophobic co-workers
force feed coffee
and coconut oil induced
system cleaning shit storm
before work
“now throw your head back and pretend to laugh”
the black guys are cool though, they know what’s up
“very good this is all going up on the company website”
the time I get to avoid the family I don’t have
and the  thousand dollar checks are worth it
