Love Story III by Neil Ellman

When trees fall in love
it is forever
never having to say
they are sorry
for their flirtations
and the amorous reach
of their libidinous limbs.

If it is love at all
rather than
a slow bend toward light
lips barely touching
eyes to the sky
how are we to know
what forever is
or love.

There is trust in poplar
and elm
hickory and oak
that they won’t roam
far from their roots.

Neil Ellman, a poet from New Jersey, has published numerous poems in print and online journals, anthologies and twelve chapbooks throughout the world. He has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize and twice for Best of the Net.
