19 Again by Ryan Quinn Flanagan

Buying that half dead Christmas tree
from outside the convenience store
along Avenue road
on Christmas Eve
because she said we had to celebrate Christmas
and it looked better than all the other
dead trees
and carrying the thing back to her place
like transporting a dead body to the morgue
her at the top
and me at the bottom
trudging through the snow
for many city blocks
in ill-fitting boots
leaning it up against the wall
of her basement apartment
and decorating it with
and a few bobbles from
the kitchen.
Our first Christmas.
