Voodoo Doll by Wanda Morrow Clevenger

on graduation night
June 4th 1973
a navy cap and gown
milestone serene smile
caught on camera

I was seated between
the boy I hurt and
the boy who hurt me

it wasn’t so much a case
of voodoo curse
than an unlucky coincidence
of alphabetical order

that felt much like
two long stickpins
driven home
