Make A Wish by Matt Galletta

Still not really
buying into
her mother’s old superstitions

but desperate enough
to try anyway,

she held her breath
as she drove past
the cemetery.

She was so distracted, though,
by the way the sun
bounced off
the cold, polished marble

that she forgot
to make a wish.

Matt Galletta lives in upstate New York. A collection of his poems, The Ship Is Sinking, is available from Epic Rites Press. Find out more at www.mattgalletta.com
