Another 24 by Wanda Morrow Clevenger

at a reading at a senior center
with my comp lunch was narrated
the personal saga of the one wheelchair lady
who rattled from roll in to roll out as though
this memory marathon could snag her
another 24 topside

she parked next to me, still I didn’t retain
much but how her son went to prison
and who knew it against the law to
look at pornography on a computer?

she shook to the bone in that wheelchair
shook when she ate when she drank when
she said the word pornography, and it’s best
she didn’t know exactly why he went to prison

she quieted down while I read a few poems
and a short story, and bless her anyway, she
was the only of the collective to make a
shrewd observation expressed with flawless
elocution—if you discount the pornography
