My New by Matthew Borczon

therapist
asks me
what I
hope to
get out
of our
meetings
I pause
to take
inventory
of past
answers to
these same
questions

and I
don’t say
I want
a full nights
sleep or
quiet dreams
or not
to feel
my stomach
drop every
time I
hear a
helicopter
outside my
house

instead I
breathe deep
a few times
and simply
say I
would like
to learn
to walk
without fear
through the
fire.
