Deadline by Alyssa Trivett

Measure it out, paint it on a billboard.
Staring contest.
Shuffle post-it-notes. Absorb paper-pusher
for a career if the time is nigh.
Count clock-ticks.
I ain’t worth a thing,
‘cept back-pocket quarters
stolen by a broken soda machine,
and all ten fingers and all ten toes
attached to this half insomniac
half coffee corpse I push through the day.
