of the old man’s casket

and of course
it was raining
still, it wasn’t quite like you see all shiny
in the movies

that casket was damn heavy
and I struggled some
under the weight
just like I always did
when he was alive

Jay Passer’s work has appeared in print and online since 1988. He is the author of 8 chapbooks. His most current collection is featured in The High Window Press’s Four American Poets (2016). Passer lives and works in San Francisco, the city of his birth.
