The Ring Please by Jay Passer

I want to get married
in response to the radio commercial on Sports Talk
for Barron’s Jewelry on Hacienda Blvd:
“A legacy of elegance”

I want to get married to escape death
have a kid or two to escape inevitable anonymity
my name living on as I finally rest
in some imaginary urn on some hypothetical mantlepiece

I want to get married
to my first girlfriend
who once blew me
as I drove a blue ’71 Volkswagen along Foster City Blvd

I want to get married
to coral reefs and Mt Tamalpais and that stray dog in the street
to sourdough yeast and buried kim chi
to San Francisco aflame circa 1906
