Before She Surrendered by David J. Thompson

My mom dated Che Guevara
in Buenos Aires in 1952.
She was a visiting nurse,
he a medical student.
She said he was relentless
in his pursuit of her, always
full of wonderful surprises,
before she surrendered
her love to him.

My older sister Maria had
a dark, full beard at thirteen,
was kicked out of high school
after she was caught many times
smoking fat cigars in the girls room.

I don’t know. You tell me.
