Visitation by Kyle Hemmings

When the little man
in top hat & pinstripe suit
tells us that the world
will end in exactly 24 hours
you might be tempted to ask
just where did he get his
information. Or did a hole
open up in the sky &
the meteorologists are running
aound like victims without maps?
Is it raining pink slips?
Or you might put your ear
to the wall of your house
& listen for uncanny vibrations.
Even the squirrels are silent.

But more likely than not,
you’ll gather yourself
together like so many
mismatched pieces of satin
& rayon & set your finest
tea cups on the table.
One for you.
& the other for the stranger
you’ve been dying to meet.

Kyle Hemmings lives and works in New Jersey.  His latest collections of poetry/prose are Future Wars and Split Brain, both on Amazon Kindle. He loves 50s Sci-Fi movies,  manga comics, and pre-punk garage bands of the 60s.
