The Time Bearers by Peter Magliocco

Spare me the ire of history,
all the blood spilled as black ink
on pages archived in digital vaults.
Sadly comes the onslaught of time
to underscore historical regression

into eons where war still rules:
I walked through German forests
in 1968, seeing martial relics
from the world war mildewing
stubbornly with winter cold
clinging to half-buried bunkers

like a time-frozen picture in mists
nothing but dying eyes eradicate
as generations come and go

waiting, waiting for some
terrorists to immolate us
for still marking time’s illusion.
