I Choose Poor by Paul Brookes

I choose to copper up.
Count the change in my wallet.

Dependant on a Friday wage.
Cut my expenses. Less pleasure

trips out to cities. More time indoors
with good books and a pen to write,

and to garden. Tidy up weeds and list
of books to write. Sometimes payday

will save our home for our daughter,
so it fills my mind like concrete.
