At 15 by Rodney Wood

I wanted to be a monk, dress like a punk, have the body of a hunk
I wanted to be a drunk (but couldn’t stand the taste)
I wanted to be an angel, more than conceptual, write ghazels
I wanted to be an intellectual (but didn’t like reading)
I wanted to be wildly degenerate, a laureate, own a restaurant
I wanted to be a pirate (but was no good at swaggering)
I wanted to be an engineer, a photographer, a writer
I wanted to be a boxer (but my gloves were balloons)
I wanted to be glamorous, blasphemous, scandalous
I wanted to be famous (but had no talent for anything)
I wanted to be complex, surrounded by objects, wear designer specs
I wanted to have sex (but just couldn’t seem to find anyone)
I wanted to be a bar of gold, travel the world, never have a cold
I wanted to be old (this is the only one to work out so far)
