Drunk at the Koi Pond by Karlo Sevilla

Drunk at that beer garden
with the koi ponds,
when I teetered towards one
to amuse myself
with the colored fish.

My favorite waitress teased me
(with a painfully-accurate adjective),
“Don’t puke there, handsome!”

I replied, Oh, I’m just looking
for a mermaid.

Then she asked, “And what
will you do in case you find one?”

Probably say hi.

Indeed, in case one arose,
that’s all I was gonna say and do.

(Inebriated, and didn’t want
to end up subpoenaed
by the Bureau of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources.)
